Four names surround the same point: Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. In the western United States, the Four Corners region owes its fame to this singular encounter. These are four states of the same country, not four independent nations.
A satellite view makes it possible to contemplate the landscape, but the administrative limits do not appear as four carefully separated colors. The lines belong to our territory organization. Their meeting becomes a landmark that we come to look for in a very real landscape.
The unusual is in the contrast between the map and the terrain. A few steps may be enough to pass from one state to another, without rock or sky announcing change. A geographical point becomes a destination: visitors come to meet a border that the landscape does not draw in their place.
What we know
Correction of the wording “four countries”. These are U.S. federated states.
