Did you know that a robotic hand learned to manipulate a Rubik's Cube? In two thousand nineteen, OpenAI presents a demonstration with one hand. The difficulty comes not only from finding movements: you have to execute them by keeping the cube in your fingers. An object can slide, move, or resist during a rotation. The system was therefore trained in simulation with variations to prepare the transfer to the hardware. Our cube remains an example: its faces, colors and sockets must remain consistent.
The demonstration describes a handling ability, not a speed record or a guaranteed success with each test. A successful sequence should not be confused with a hundred percent rate. The hand shown here is not the exact material of the laboratory.
The interest is to connect virtual learning and physical contact. The hand must grasp, turn and resume its supports before continuing. An image does not prove a solution: this illustration illustrates the manipulation, and the result comes from the publication, not from a miraculous cube.
What we know
The 2019 demonstration is about the ability to manipulate. It does not set a world speed record or a guaranteed success on every test.
