A flowered chariot crosses a street; elsewhere, a composition advances on a boat. In the Netherlands, corsos are parades whose decorations can use flowers, fruits or vegetables. The result seems to emerge suddenly in front of the spectators, as spectacular as it is a passenger.
In reality, groups of friends or neighborhoods prepare their achievements for months. Know-how is transmitted through learning, participation and school programs. The work brings together the design of the forms, their construction and their dressing. Musicians and performances can accompany the procession, both on the road and on the water.
UNESCO’s description thus emphasizes the relations maintained around preparation. The event is not limited to how long a tank passes in front of a camera. Its ephemeral nature even creates a reason to start again together. When the flowers are no longer fresh, what the group has learned and organized does not disappear with them.
