A carpet is finished on his loom. However, there is still an important moment: separating the work from its support. In the Azerbaijani tradition described by UNESCO, this cup gives rise to a particularly solemn celebration.
The object brings together activities spread out over time: wool preparation, spinning, dyeing and weaving. In particular, knowledge comes through family practice. The techniques vary, with velvet carpets and others without velvet, and the patterns are related to different regions. A piece does not represent all the styles of the country.
The last cut makes visible the culmination of a long cooperation. The carpet can then accompany domestic life or ceremonies, but it already carries the history of its manufacture. By simply looking at him as a set on the ground, we arrive almost too late in his story: a first party took place even before he could leave the trade.
