Did you know that an AI agent was given the management of an experimental shop? In two thousand twenty-five, Project Vend entrusts Claudius with certain decisions. He must choose products, manage prices and exchange with people: a test of commercial judgment. The agent makes decisions through tools, but humans do the physical operations. Our shelf illustrates a shop, not a conscious robot that moves the goods alone. It is necessary to separate what the system decides from what people do in this trial.
The first phase reports management errors and loss-making activity, including a strange interest in tungsten cubes. Decisions can seem assured while being bad. This story proves neither emotions nor the existence of a successful trader.
A second phase, published, describes improvements with another device and better tools. It is therefore necessary to avoid freezing the whole story on the first failure. Experience shows one thing: the functioning of an agent depends as much on its environment as on its responses.
What we know
The first phase of Project Sell and subsequent improvements are distinguished. Humans perform the material operations; no agent consciousness is demonstrated.
