Did you know that an artificial intelligence competed with elite drivers in a racing simulator? The works published in two thousand twenty-two present Gran Turismo Sophy. Here, speed alone is not enough: you have to choose a trajectory and manage the other cars. The car must brake before the turn, stay on the track and accelerate on the exit. AI learns in this simulated world, with the rules of the game. This illustrated circuit shows this principle, without presenting itself as an authentic capture of Gran Turismo or a race.

The evaluations described concern four high-level pilots and events of two thousand and twenty-one. The results demonstrate performance in this virtual setting. They do not mean that a vehicle can overtake all drivers on an open road with pedestrians.

The subject is interesting because it combines mastery and interactions, not just a chronometer. One strategy must take into account the others. But the borderline remains important: a win in a simulator is not an actual driving certification, under any conditions.
